1970 Chevelle ProTouring “Body Swap” build.
Snowballing…it’s a common occurrence in the classic car restoration world. This survivor 1970 Chevelle arrived at the shop for a body swap onto an Art Morrison chassis with the plan to leave the body/paint untouched. Once the Chevelle was set onto it’s new chassis package that features a fully dressed 495hp LS3 it became harder to not take the balance of the Chevelle to the next level. In the end, the Chevy received a full restoration including fresh paint and a full interior conversion from factory green to a black Super Sport upgrade.

Here is how the Chevelle looked as it arrived at the shop.

MetalWorks’ Art Morrison chassis package that went underneath the Chevelle.

The Chevelle was torn down, then separated from its stock chassis.

The Chevy’s underbody was prepped, then sprayed in epoxy and Raptor undercoating. The finished underbody of the Chevelle ensures that the body will not need to come back off the chassis is a decision is made down the line to paint the topside of the body. In the case of our 70 build, it was decided to paint the body prior to it leaving the shop, so it saved us the process of pulling the body back off again.

Final time of setting the body onto its new Art Morrison chassis package.

Here you can see how nice the underbody looks with the finished exhaust system, painted AME chassis, and Raptor Undercoating.

As the Chevelle was being assembled, it was determined that it was simply turning out too nice to keep the original tattered paint job…so fresh paint was added to the menu. The end results of the “snowballing effect” are below.

In the end our amazing customers have a 1970 Chevelle that retains its classic good looks, but with all the modern performance, handing, and reliability of a modern car. The best of both worlds in a single driving machine that may have snowballed a bit in its build, but in the end was totally worth it.
